Projects
COMPLETED: Light Up Kerewan Samba Sira Village
Help us light up the village of Kerewan Samba Sira with 75 additional solar lights to help create a safe environment and boost the local economy by creating a safe environment with extended working hours.
COMPLETED: Restoring Power to the Mosque in Kerewan Samba Sira
We raised funds to purchase and install a new solar battery for the mosque in the village of Kerewan Samba Sira. This restored uninterrupted solar power, allowing the mosque to function properly and maintain the daily call to prayer for over 1,000 community members.
COMPLETED: Community Museums in Kerewan Samba Sira
We established two traditional community museums in the village of Kerewan Samba Sira to preserve the cultural heritage of the Fula and Mandinka communities. The museums serve as living cultural spaces that support sustainable tourism, local livelihoods, and community empowerment.
IN PROGRESS: Help Secure Kids Are The World Nursery!
We’re raising funds to rebuild the fence at Kids Are The World Nursery in Brufut Ghana Town to prevent break-ins and protect school materials. A stronger, higher fence will ensure a safe learning space for the children.
IN PROGRESS: Well construction project - clean water for communities
We’re building wells across The Gambia to provide communities with access to clean drinking water. By installing solar-powered wells, we improve health, hygiene, and quality of life while supporting self-sufficiency and long-term community development.
IN PROGRESS: Bantaba
We’re raising funds to build the Bantaba — a covered, multifunctional community space at the career and educational center in Brufut, Ghana Town. The Bantaba will provide a safe, shaded environment for learning, community gatherings, and cultural activities, supporting children, youth, and families while strengthening local self-sufficiency and well-being.
ONGOING: Career - Educational Centre
The Career and Education Center in Brufut is the largest development project of our partner humanitarian organization Za Otroke Sveta in collaboration with the Travel as a Volunteer initiative. In 2019, we officially opened the Kids Are The World Nursery, which now provides free education to more than 100 children from nearby villages each year. Around 35 new children are enrolled annually.
ONGOING: Summer Camps
For the twelfth year in a row, we are organizing a summer camp for children in Gambia. From 20 July to 20 September 2026, the camp will be supported by many dedicated international volunteers, offering children from local villages a safe, inspiring and educational place to spend their summer days.
ONGOING: Kerewan Samba Sira Cotton Project
The Sustainable Cotton Farming Project supports local cotton production while preserving traditional weaving heritage in rural Gambia. By combining agriculture, cultural preservation, and community-based tourism, the project creates sustainable income opportunities and long-term development for the village of Kerewan Samba Sira.
ONGOING: Bicycles for Children in Rural Villages
The Bicycles for Children in Rural Villages project provides bicycles to children living in remote communities, enabling safer, faster, and more reliable access to school. By reducing long and exhausting daily journeys, the project supports education, equality, and long-term opportunities for children and their families.
ONGOING: Emergency Assistance Project
The Emergency Assistance Project provides rapid, targeted support to individuals and families in The Gambia facing unexpected crises. Through immediate material, financial, and psychosocial aid, the project helps restore safety, stability, and dignity while strengthening community support.
ONGOING: Say Hello To The World
Say Hello to the World is an international educational project that connects children from different countries through live video calls. By learning, playing, and creating together, children develop empathy, intercultural understanding, and a sense of global belonging from an early age.
ONGOING: Sea Turtle Conservation Project
We launched a sea turtle conservation project in Gunjur to protect nesting sites and improve hatchling survival. By building a safe hatchery and working closely with the local community, we support biodiversity, environmental education, and sustainable livelihoods.
