Cultural Management
If you are interested in organizing, coordinating, and promoting cultural projects in an international environment – the Cultural Management program is for you. During your stay, you will take part in planning, implementing, and promoting events that bring together artists, children, communities, and volunteers.
As a volunteer, you will assist in organizing workshops, festivals, exhibitions, theatre and music performances, as well as in promoting projects through social media and local media channels. The program offers insight into the functioning of cultural institutions in The Gambia and encourages cooperation and exchange between Slovenian and Gambian culture.

Work Environment
Volunteers will work in cultural centers, schools, community spaces, and artistic collectives, where they will be involved in the daily organization of events.
The work includes program planning, communication with performers, fundraising, promotion, and event execution.
Everything takes place in a relaxed, creative environment where flexibility and teamwork are essential.

Role overview (what you’ll do) — under staff supervision
As a cultural management volunteer, you will participate in:
• planning cultural projects and events,
• coordinating workshops, performances, exhibitions, and festivals,
• preparing promotional materials and social media posts,
• leading or supporting cultural and artistic activities with children and young people,
• assisting in finding donors and sponsors,
• collecting and documenting materials for reports and project presentations,
• developing cultural strategies in cooperation with local organizations.
Who we’re looking for
• students or graduates of cultural management, arts, social sciences, or communication,
• individuals with a sense for organization, aesthetics, and intercultural cooperation,
• creative and adaptable people who take initiative,
• those who want to explore how the cultural sector functions in a developing environment,
• advantage: experience in event organization or cultural volunteering
How to prepare
It is recommended that before your arrival you:
• learn about the local cultural characteristics and arts of The Gambia,
• bring essential work tools (laptop, notebook, USB drive),
• think about ideas for cultural projects you would like to develop,
• learn the basics of digital promotion and public communication,
• prepare for work in a dynamic, sometimes unpredictable environment.
Training and supervision
On the first day, you will meet your mentor, who will introduce you to ongoing cultural projects and explain the working methods. Mentorship continues through regular meetings and ongoing support in planning events.
Program Goals
The goal of the program is to strengthen the cultural sector in The Gambia and to develop projects that promote creativity, identity, collaboration, and social connectedness.
The program aims to provide volunteers with hands-on learning, knowledge exchange, and meaningful contributions to the sustainable development of culture.
Fundraising
Volunteers can help in organizing charity events, art exhibitions, and campaigns aimed at raising funds for cultural materials, instruments, or support for young artists.
