Why your help matters
In today’s world, video is a powerful tool for raising awareness, educating, and connecting people across the globe. Through the content you create, you help present a realistic picture of life in Gambia, showcase humanitarian projects, and attract potential new volunteers or supporters. Your work is essential for the ongoing efforts of the organisation, as it helps spread stories that inspire change.
Role overview (what you’ll do) — under staff supervision
As a videography volunteer, you will:
• film short videos, interviews, and reports about volunteer projects,
• prepare video content for social media, campaigns, and promotion,
• participate in editing and post-production,
• film cultural events, classes, workshops, and community activities,
• create documentary content about life in Gambia,
• collaborate with local creators – exchanging techniques and ideas,
• archive recordings and prepare final materials for publication or presentation.
Who we’re looking for
• students or amateur videographers with basic filming and editing knowledge,
• individuals with a sense of storytelling, aesthetics, and a respectful approach to interviewees,
• self-motivated individuals able to work independently and in a team,
• open-minded, creative, and patient people prepared to work in diverse conditions,
• recommended: basic knowledge of editing programs (e.g., Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut), though not required.
How to prepare
It is recommended that before arrival you:
• bring a camera, microphone, tripod, and extra batteries,
• ensure sufficient memory cards and a portable drive,
• prepare ideas or a basic filming plan,
• pack light summer clothing and protection against dust/sun,
• read guidelines on ethical filming in humanitarian environments,
• bring a notebook or tablet for notes and storing ideas.
Training and supervision
On the first day, the volunteer coordinator will welcome you, provide all necessary information, and introduce the project and fieldwork guidelines. The organisation’s mentor supervises the content, selection, and use of footage. In cooperation with members of the local communities, volunteers gain insight into the environment in which they film while ensuring respectful and authentic representation at all times.
Program Goals
To create visual stories that connect the world with the reality of Gambia, foster understanding and solidarity, and inspire others to help. The purpose of the project is to build a bridge between cultures and to show that every individual has the power to contribute to positive change.
Fundraising
Videographers may participate in fundraising for technical equipment (microphones, tripods, lights, extra batteries) and the production of short documentary films. Donations help improve quality and increase the reach of humanitarian stories.
